Subterranean River at Labouiche

 

The subterranean river

Discover Labouiche's  subterranean river. Situated just 6km from Foix, on the  D1, Labouiche's subterranean river has been open to the general public since 1938.

The tour begins with a walk to the entrance of the caverns, where you will be guided down a series of steps to your awaiting boat.

The  guide will supply a commentry during your 75 minute boat ride through the spectacular caverns. We would recommend you take a jacket with you as the river is some 60mts underground at an average temperature of around  13 °.

 

 

 

 

 

BEDEILHAC CAVERNS

 

 

The Caverns at Bedeilhac are simply fantastic. There is evidence of Human inhabitance for more than 10,000 years. The 'great gallery', some 1 km long, has pillars formed by stalagmites and stalagtites. You then reach the end room where the hunters carved and painted pictures of Bison, Horses, Reindeers and Ibex

GROTTO LOMBRIVES

 

The Grotte de Lombrives are listed in the Guinness Book of World Records as the biggest show cave in Europe. Their events include cave tours for up to 1,200 visitors, with 25 different topics, plays, underground banquets, receptions, and  workshops for children.

Location:  Ussat-les-Bains, Ariège. 15km south of Foix, 2km south east of Tarascon-sur-Ariège

Crazy Golf

 

There is a Crazy Golf course just 10 minutes drive from the house where you can relax with a drink or meal while the children keep themselves amused for hours. You can even try a bit of Trout fishing in the lake.(all equipment is supplied by the owner)

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

Pyrenees

 

The Pyrenees are on the doorstep of the village with scenery that changes with every turn. One minute you are in the gorges of the river Aude where you can ride the rapids, the next you are on the Plateaus with their spectacular views and soaring birds of prey. On further and you can ascend the mountains over to Spain or Andorra with some of the best mountain terrain in the world.

Ax Les Thermes

 

On the road to Andorra is the fantastic ski town of Ax Les Thermes where you can spend a day perusing the shops, taking in the splendour of the magnificent buildings or dip your feet in the natural spa with its’ alleged healing properties.
